I find that most mature ladies don't want to wear too much makeup on the big day as such it is best to keep makeup to a minimum so that they feel comfortable. The flash and lighting used in professional photography can be so draining that usually we makeup artists have to apply that little bit more. Rest assured though that your Mum or Granny can still look 'picture perfect' in the professional photographers pics with a well applied (minimal) makeup by a professional makeup artist.
When they feel comfortable in themselves that is what will come across more than anything in the pics.
