To get the best results when choosing foundation do these 2 simple things:
1# Match it to your skin type/needs
2# Know what coverage you are after (sheer/medium/full)

A quick guide to some foundation types:
Liquid foundation:
good for dry skins, can look to 'thick' or 'mask like' if applied with heavy hand though many brands have available in 'sheer' coverage. You will have to powder after to 'set' the makeup.
Powder foundation:
good for oily skins and quick + convenient (no extra 'setting' necessary).
Mineral foundation: available nowadays in powder or liquid. I've always found either to be Very drying (feel and finished look) but in that case good for oily skins and quick + convenient.

I do makeup lessons too and come to you:
Private booking (one on one session): $65 p/hr (minimum 2 hours)
Group booking (minimum 4 people): $50pp p/hr (minimum 2 hours)

Let me know what suits you and we can sort out a day/time :)
